MLCC Shortage 2026: Lead Times, Allocation & CT41 Alternatives

2026-06-29

If you are sourcing multilayer ceramic capacitors in 2026, you may already be seeing longer lead times, tighter allocation and more urgent requests for approved alternatives. The MLCC shortage is no longer only a high-end AI server issue. Demand from AI servers, automotive electronics, AI PCs, edge devices and consumer hardware is putting pressure on selected capacitance values, case sizes and dielectric types.

For buyers, the main question is simple: how can you keep production running when your regular Murata, TDK, Samsung, AVX, Vishay or KEMET MLCC part is delayed? UF Capacitors prepared this update to explain the shortage drivers and show how the CT41 Series can support MLCC replacement and cross-reference projects.

MLCC Shortage 2026: Lead Times, Allocation & CT41 Alternatives

Shortage Is No Longer Just for AI Models

According to what we’ve heard from the industry, the MLCC shortage is now affecting more than just high-end AI server capacitors. Big brands like Murata and Samsung are focusing their production on high-value AI orders, and they’ve started cutting back on low-end consumer models.

These low-end products don’t bring in much revenue for them – maybe 10-15% – but they make up over 40% of their total output. So when they cut production on these, it hits the supply of common MLCCs used in phones, laptops, and PCs.

Walsin recently mentioned that 47µF is currently the most critical shortage, and other popular values like 10µF and 22µF, especially X5R types, are also getting tight. Some people in the industry think this shortage could last until 2027 or even 2028.

Lead Times Are Getting Longer – Some Up to 20 Weeks from tier-1 brands

Because capacity is being taken up by AI and automotive applications, the supply of standard MLCCs is shrinking fast. Some models now have lead times of more than 20 weeks, which is something we haven’t seen in a long time.

Yageo also said that from what they see in their order book, the second half of this year will be very busy, and prices may go up.

And here’s another problem – even if suppliers want to add more capacity, they can’t get the equipment fast enough. Japanese equipment makers are quoting 6 to 12 months delivery, and Taiwanese suppliers are at 3 to 6 months. So don’t expect the supply situation to improve quickly.

When Will It Get Better?

To be honest, it doesn’t look like it will get better soon.

AI servers are only a few million units a year, but AI PCs are expected to reach 200 million units. Once memory supply catches up and AI edge devices start shipping in volume, demand for MLCCs will only go higher. And since most big suppliers are focusing their capacity on high-margin products, consumer grade parts are getting less attention – even though they are needed in much larger quantities. This mismatch is going to take a while to fix.

UF Capacitors CT41 Series: MLCC Alternative and Cross Reference Support

UF Capacitors CT41 Series chip multilayer ceramic capacitors are designed for general-purpose MLCC applications and broad compatibility with mainstream capacitor brands. The series can be reviewed as an alternative source when buyers need a replacement for selected Murata, TDK/Epcos, Vishay, AVX or KEMET MLCC part numbers.

Important note: a cross reference is not an automatic approval. Before replacing any MLCC, confirm capacitance, rated voltage, dielectric, tolerance, case size, thickness, operating temperature, DC bias behavior, ESR, ripple current, reliability grade, packaging and application requirements.

Our CT41 Series is a general-purpose MLCC line covering 4V to 6KV, with common values and packages in stock under allocation.

FAQ: MLCC Shortage and Replacement

Why are MLCC lead times getting longer in 2026?

Lead times are getting longer because AI servers, automotive electronics and high-performance computing applications are consuming more high-end MLCC capacity. When major manufacturers prioritize these higher-value orders, allocation pressure can spread to standard MLCC values.

Which MLCC values should buyers check first?

Buyers should review high-capacitance values such as 10uF, 22uF and 47uF, especially X5R and X7R parts used for power supply bypassing, decoupling and consumer electronics applications.

Can UF Capacitors CT41 replace Murata, TDK, AVX, Vishay or KEMET MLCCs?

CT41 can be reviewed as an alternative for selected MLCC applications, but the final decision depends on electrical specifications, size, dielectric, DC bias behavior, reliability requirements and customer approval.

Is every MLCC currently in shortage?

No. Availability depends on capacitance, voltage, dielectric, package size and supplier allocation. Some standard parts may remain available, while high-capacitance and high-reliability parts can be much tighter.

When should I start qualifying an MLCC alternative?

Start as early as possible, ideally before your current supplier confirms allocation. Alternative approval may require samples, testing and customer validation, so early planning reduces production risk.

What information does UF Capacitors need for a quotation?

Please send the original part number, specifications, annual demand, target delivery date and any compliance or qualification requirements. UF Capacitors can then suggest a CT41 cross reference where suitable.
